What We Do

Mom Teaching (2).JPG

The Allen Heritage Foundation works with youth in rural communities, particularly in Dickson County Tennessee, and Guatemala, C.A. who want support and opportunities that help them achieve success.  The Foundation has been launched to honor the life and legacy of Fran Allen, wife of founder Norris Allen and mother to co-founders Sherry and Wesley Allen.  Fran Allen was a mathematician by profession and passion, who taught math and computer science in the Dickson County schools for three decades.  She and her husband Norris initiated scholarship and infrastructure programs in rural Guatemala designed to give youth and families the opportunities to succeed in their own community.

Educational Success

The Allen Heritage Foundation (AHF) supports students in 8th through 12th grade who have a sincere interest in science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics.   Each academic year, AHF Scholars are selected with the potential to participate in foundation activities until they graduate high school.

These scholars

  • have the opportunity to access up to $1000 per year to support their academic endeavors; and

  • get experience that positions them for success in securing scholarships and entrance into higher education resources.

AHF Scholars who successfully participate in each academic year will have the opportunity to apply for AHF Scholarships for higher education expenses.

By supporting AHF Scholars, the foundation intends to help youth in rural counties take their place as the next generation of scientists, engineers, technology professionals, and mathematicians.

To apply to be an AHF Scholar, U.S. students must submit an online application and identify 2 educators who will submit an electronic recommendation on their behalf.  The finalists will be interviewed by the Allen Heritage Foundation board of directors. Guatemalan scholars will be recommended by our partner, the Living Heritage Foundation.

The application for the 2024-2025 academic year is now open.
